5 Ways To Improve Your Mental Well-Being

In honour of World Mental Health day, here are 5 ways to improve your mental well-being.

Start by Pausing:
When we commit to pausing, appreciating and noticing the tiny details of life, we nurture gratitude. Set an alarm for one hour and remind yourself to drink water, take a breather or just watch the skies. Take note of what’s around you, what you appreciate and what you’ll like to see more of.

Put down your Phone:
Try this: Walk through a woodland, sit by the riverside, listen to the ocean waves, watch sunsets, hike, watch the water flow. You’ll naturally immerse yourself in the calming power of nature allowing your senses to tune into natural sights and sounds.

Observe Stillness:
Intentionally take a day off to do absolutely nothing but just exist. See #dolcefarniente for inspiration.

Commit to Kindness:
Kindness strengthens relationships, builds community and deepens our feeling of belonging. It helps reduce stress, brings a fresh perspective, and deepens friendships. Kindness to ourselves can prevent shame from corroding our sense of identity and help boost our self-esteem. Kindness can even improve feelings of confidence and optimism.

Sleep:
Because our mental health must go hand in hand with how well our bodies are rested, try 7-9hours of sleep. Check @heavensentsleep for inspiration and how to balance sleep and attachment with less anxiety.

“We can’t become what we need to be by remaining what we are.”
Oprah Winfrey.
